Fillers (Restylane™, Radiesse™)

Our faces are all unique in many ways but time takes the same toll on all of us. As we age, gravity pulls things down, ultraviolet sun rays damage the collagen and elastic fibers of the skin and the soft tissues ultimately sag and deflate. In rejuvenating your appearance, surgery has always been the gold standard to lift and sculpt the sagging tissue around the eyes and face.

In the 21st Century, tissue re-inflation with filler injections has become a main ingredient in the recipe of facial sculpting. There are multiple fillers available today, and are geared toward replacing lost volume and encouraging new collagen production. Injections can be administered all over the face to accomplish an overall improvement in lines, wrinkles and sagging. Common areas for filler injections are the folds next to and below your mouth, underneath your eyelids, into your cheeks, and the lips.

Fillers fall into three categories: temporary, semi permanent and permanent.
Collagen injections are a great example of temporary fillers, lasting about 2 months.
Hyaluronic gels, a naturally occurring sugar molecule found in the skin, like Restylane and Juvederm, will last 6-12 months. These fillers are excellent for filling in lines and wrinkles as well as plumping up the lips.

Radiesse, a gel filler with calcium microspheres, is semipermanent, lasting up to 2 years. In addition, to filling in deep wrinkles and folds, Radiesse also promotes new collagen production. It can be used to fill in folds next to your mouth and to replace fat loss in your cheeks and face.

Unlike, traditional fillers that add volume and generate instant result, Sculptra is a sugar molecule injected deep to the skin and dissolves over a few weeks. As it breaks down, it turns on the skins ability to rebuild itself. Thus with 1 to3 sets of injections spread out every few weeks, dramatic results can be obtained in sculpting your face.

Finally, no filler conversation is complete without mentioning the most easily obtained filler, your own fat. Fat can be removed really from anywhere in your body, and re-injected to sculpt and re-inflate your facial structures. When transferred properly, the fat can last for years!

Dr. Goldstein and Tri-County Eye Physicians plastic surgery department offer several filler options to best meet your needs and budget. Contact the office to find out more.
