Health & Vision Care Insurance Information

Some of the most frequently asked questions by patients when making appointments are:

  • Do you participate with my insurance plan?
  • What is the difference between a medical visit and a routine eye exam?
  • Do I have routine vision care coverage under my insurance plan?
  • When do I need a referral for my visit?

Tri-County Eye Physicians & Surgeons accepts a variety of insurance plans for both medical examination coverage and routine vision care examinations. A medical visit whether for either initial treatment or follow up care is normally covered under your medical insurance policy. A routine eye or vision care examination, usually indicated when there is a question regarding your visual acuity in the absence of any known eye disorders, may be covered, often without a referral, only if your health insurance plan includes routine vision care coverage. Some patients are uncertain whether their medical coverage also includes routine vision coverage. We have attached a list of all of the insurance plans with which we currently participate, including phone numbers and web site addresses when available. You are responsible to contact your health insurance plan provider, to determine the specifics of your health, medical and vision care insurance coverage. Some examples of medical visits that are billed through your medical insurance are eye exams for diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts or headaches as well as visits for acute problems like pink eye and eye trauma.

When you have medical coverage through an HMO, a referral is required to see our physicians for medical visits. For these patients, lack of the appropriate referral at the time of the appointment will necessitate payment in full at the time of the visit. If this is not possible, a re-scheduled appointment within a reasonable time frame will be made to accommodate your referral acquisition from your primary care physician.

As always, we are available to answer questions that you may have regarding your insurance coverage. You may direct your inquiries to our Insurance and Billing Department by calling 215-396-4211 during regular business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
