Pre-operative Evaluation Cataract Refractive Surgery

Measurements being takenOnce the decision has been made to proceed with cataract surgery, the patient will undergo a series of additional tests in which the eyes are measured to determine the proper power of intraocular lens to insert. Using data from advanced ultrasound (called biometry), laser interferometry (with the Zeiss IOL Master®), corneal topography (with the Humphrey Atlas® topographer) and corneal curvature (keratometry) measurements, several computerized lens power formulas are calculated, analyzed and compared to determine the exact intraocular lens implant power for each eye to be used in surgery.

Tri-County Eye’s new Nidek/Marco OPD-III Corneal Topographer is a state-of-the art diagnostic instrument utilized pre-operatively for refractive cataract surgery as well as for diagnosis and management of ocular surface disorders. The technology combines keratometry, pupillometry, corneal topography and wavefront aberrometry all in one fast image acquisition measurement.
